Overview
Overview

The primary challenge was to create an engaging and intuitive user interface that simplifies the product selection process, without sacrificing personalization or overwhelming users with information. The goal was to mirror the personalized haircare advice one would receive from a professional hairstylist, making it accessible at the tap of a finger.

User research
User research

The design journey for Woven Hue began with a solid foundation of secondary and market research, complemented by targeted user discovery interviews with 13 participants. These steps were pivotal in identifying critical user needs and crafting personas representing our core audience.

Key Takeaways:

  • Individual hair acceptance is key for users. I found when someone embraces their hair texture and they understand how to take care of it leads to self acceptance.

  • People don't understand what products to use, but they want to.

  • People do want healthy hair, but how it is defined is unique to them. Concerns can range from thinning hair to frizz.

This groundwork was key to create personas and user flows, pinpointing the most crucial steps for users to gain value. From the empathy map to personas I found it helpful to put human emotion back into my discoveries.

I created user stories to break down the users' steps, which helped me think about what was most vital for them to achieve their goals. Creating it underscored the importance of beginning with a value-based onboarding experience and hair assessment, followed by customized product recommendations, ensuring a tailored user experience.

A solid brand foundation was established before delving into wireframes so I could have a foundation to build all of my creative decisions. The brand voice and visuals were carefully considered through mood boarding, color selection, and logo creation, culminating in a style guide.

Creating the high-fidelity frames was a fun culmination of the branding and user research. Bringing together the color that I originally thought would be bright, I instead went with a calming background because I wanted the user to feel calm so I changed to this horchata color.
